The Birkin Revival

If you follow me on Tiktok you already know how I feel about the Birkin, with the reign of mommy bloggers in the 2012 era the bag had quickly become a boring accessory. The uniformity of styling that was seen in these bags was always dull to me as a child, it may even be why I’m so wary of buying in on trendy overmarketed bags today.
The conversation of the ‘Death of the Birkin’ came to the main stage after Beyonce dropped Renaissance and left us with “...Birkins them sh*ts in storage…” in her closing song Summer Reinassance. Soon several people within the industry were voicing their opinion on the matter and it appeared I was one of many observers who lost interest in the hype of the Birkin. It’s funny how it usually takes one person voicing their opinion for everybody else to also become vocal.
Shortly after, a new approach began emerging, to not only bring back the Birkin but bring back the Jane Birkin styling era. A much easier time when the full bag’s size was utilized for efficiency and not just aesthetics. The bag was worn as a true side piece, not the crux of the entire outfit. You would see it overstuffed and the leather would be scuffed and worn from all the journeys it had been on.

With several luxury resellers available globally you can acquire a used Birkin at a much more realistic price than they used to list for. This increase in accessibility has drawn me to consider purchasing a bag I had long forsaken interest in. A perfect example would be a shopper like me, at the start of building their luxury bag closet and living a busy life. I believe buying a used Birkin for $7,000.00 is worth more to my closet than a $7,000.00 Chanel that I’m more hesitant to get messy or carry around a bustling city. When styled in this lax manner, the Birkin appeals more to my lifestyle and I think many people can agree that if you’re spending that much on a bag it should be put to good use.
If your main goal is just going for the look of the Birkin, the Tory Burch Lee Radziwill Double gives a great affordable comparison with a very similar vibe. The reviews have raved about how stylish and posh the bag is, and I will admit to almost mistaking it for a Birkin upon my initial glance.

Regardless of which side you stand on the Birkin bag will always be a classic for your closet. And let’s be honest, if you’re buying Birkins in this economy odds are you could probably buy another and keep different use cases for both. Keep an eye out on my closet, who knows, if I’m lucky there may be a special bag unboxing in the near future!
